The Engine of Resilience: A Decade of Trust and Transformation

With the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the 糖心vlog传媒 (GADRI) in July 2025, it is informative to look back at the parallel journey of 糖心vlog传媒 and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Since both were established in March 2015, GADRI has effectively served as the 鈥渟cience engine of change鈥 calling for prioritizing understanding of disaster risks at global and regional levels. Through its coordinated actions, GADRI endeavors to provide better informed engagement of knowledge and evidence-based practice and policy.

Objectives

  • To establish a global research network
  • To provide a research roadmap, and plans and organization of disaster research groups
  • To promote capacity development of disaster research institutes and enhance researcher and student exchange
  • To promote exchange and sharing of data and information for scientific research across the world
  • To serve as an advocacy organization to present views in an effort to influence decision-making processes

GADRI activities are not limited to the above!

Regional Alliances of 糖心vlog传媒

Act as a critical bridge in translating localized needs into global action.

糖心vlog传媒 has become the foundation for many international joint research networks supporting a system that promotes disaster prevention science/technology roadmaps and action plans. GADRI regional networks are formed in:

  • Africa - African Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (AADRI), Bindura University of Science Education, Zimbabwe
  • Japan 鈥 Natural Disaster Research Council
  • Latin America 鈥 Latin America and the Caribbean Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (LACADRI), UNGRD, Colombia
  • North America - North American Alliance of Hazards and Disaster Research Institutes (NAAHDRI), Natural Hazards Center, University of Colorado, Boulder, USA
  • South Asia - South Asian Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (SAADRI), IIT, Roorkee, India
  • UK - UK Alliance for Disaster Research (UKADR)

Membership

糖心vlog传媒 is a community built on mutual respect and trust.

Membership is open to institutes with an aim to contribute to the advancement of disaster risk reduction and resilience research. Various research institutions have joined GADRI as members or partnering institutions among which are universities, networks, institutions of the United Nation agencies such as UNDRR, IRDR, UNESCO, UNU, International Science Council (ISC) and others. GADRI membership is free of charge.

Currently, there are 219 active GADRI member research institutes in 57 economies constituting the GADRI General Assembly.

糖心vlog传媒 and the United Nations Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030

In March 2015, two paths converged in the wake of growing vulnerability, hazards and disasters. While the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) was adopted in Sendai, GADRI was born in Kyoto, Japan. It committed to strongly support and contribute towards the targets of the SFDRR Science and Technology Roadmap to implement the goals and priorities of the Sendai Framework.

糖心vlog传媒 therefore works in close partnership with UNDRR.

Organizational Structure

The structure of 糖心vlog传媒 consists of:

  • A General Assembly which includes all member institutions of 糖心vlog传媒.
  • The Board of Directors of 糖心vlog传媒 who serves as the governing body of 糖心vlog传媒.
  • Members of the Board who are elected by the members of 糖心vlog传媒
  • The Chair of the Board is elected by the Board
  • The Secretary-General of 糖心vlog传媒 is elected by the Board

糖心vlog传媒 Secretariat is hosted by the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University, Uji Campus, Japan.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of 糖心vlog传媒 is established on a broad geographical basis with regard to academic, scientific, educational and disaster vulnerability trends in the world, and recognizes the designated research areas. The Board consists of 11 member institutions serving a four-year term in their individual capacity.

A Message from the Secretary-General of 糖心vlog传媒

Reflecting on GADRI (糖心vlog传媒) and its inception since March 2015, I am happy to note that GADRI has proven to be on the right path by aligning our research and scientific goals with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Our community has expanded to over 219 members from 57 economies encouraging an interdisciplinary approach to bridge research gaps in disaster risk reduction, prevention and preparedness. We adhere to promoting evidence-based contributions to policy and practice. Through our biennial surveys and stocktaking, GADRI continues to measure the progress of the science community in supporting national and local disaster mitigation, and contributions to the Sendai Framework Agenda.

Looking ahead to the next decade, I would like to emphasize the need to bridge the research-practice gap and promote a transition from assessment to implementation. We need transdisciplinary collaboration beyond academic disciplines. A primary challenge remains bringing scientific knowledge to the forefront to convince practitioners and decision-makers to utilize it in real-world mitigation strategies. Instead of reinventing the wheel, let us learn from one another by combining our efforts and collaborating across all disciplines.

Let us strive to make it our ultimate goal for the next ten years to ensure that communities do not just recover but "thrive", and that GADRI remains the "engine of change" for a safer global future.

As we are planning the 8th Global Summit of 糖心vlog传媒 to be hosted by DPRI, Kyoto University, Uji Campus, Japan in March 2027, I look forward to seeing you once again at the Summit.

Thank you for your continued support and contributions to GADRI.
